What is the fundamental difference between ATS Control and Dry Contact Control?

In ATS Control, the inverter and generator do not communicate. The inverter simply sees the generator as a "grid" source. An external ATS handles the switching. In Dry Contact Control, the inverter intelligently starts and stops the generator based on parameters like battery State of Charge (SOC) via a dry contact signal.
